Ban the Bag in Rincon/NO a la Bolsa Plastica en Rincon
Posted under: The single use plastic bag offers us convenience at a very high cost to our environment. Recycling of plastic bags has been found to be non-existent in Puerto Rico and is not a viable solution. Banning the single-use bag makes the most sense as we move forward to make Rincón a model eco- friendly city.
Plastic Bags do not get Recycled in Puerto Rico!
Many countries such as Italy and South Africa and large USA cities such as San Francisco CA, Portland OR, Seattle WA and San Jose CA have successfully banned plastic bags. While other countries such as China and Ireland and cities such as Washington DC have imposed fees for use of plastic bags. Benefits of using canvas reusable bags include:
- Reducing pollution of our waterways, oceans, and lands.
- Saving non-renewable oil used in the production of plastic bags
- Reducing wildlife and marine life deaths caused by plastic bags

La bolsa plástica de un solo uso nos ofrece conveniencia a un costo alto para nuestro ambiente.
Reciclaje de estas bolsas no existe en Puerto Rico y no es una solución viable. Prohibir el uso de bolsas plásticas de un solo uso es lo que hace mas sentido cuando nos movemos hacia hacer a Rincón un modelo de ciudad respetuosa del ambiente.
Muchos países tales como Italia y Sur-África y otras ciudades tales como San Francisco CA, Portland OR, Seattle WA y San José CA han prohibido las bolsas plásticas con éxito. Mientras países como China e Irlanda y otras ciudades como Washington DC han impuesto cargos en el uso de estas bolsas plásticas.
Reciclaje de estas bolsas no existe en Puerto Rico
Beneficios de usar bolsas reusables de “canvas” incluyen:
- Reducir la contaminación de nuestros cuerpos de agua, océanos y tierras.
- Economizar el uso de petróleo no renovable usado en la producción de bolsas plásticas.
- Reducir las muertes de vida marina y silvestre causada por las bolsas plásticas.

This needs to happen! It would be a huge step for Rincon. While visiting other islands in summers past Karina and I found that many of them have banned plastic bags. Replacing them with canvas bags and using boxes that otherwise would be put in a dumpster.
Think about how many plastic bags come out of econo every time you visit! Why not keep them out of our landfills, beaches and streets!
